Does the quality of your services depend on Internet connection quality?

It depends on how you are connected with our system. In most cases, you can receive excellent, quality calls. Here are a few options on how you can connect.

If you are calling from an ordinary phone (home phone, office phone, or mobile phone) and it is not connected to the Internet, the quality will be terrific.

If you are calling from a smartphone which is connected to the Internet, you can choose whether you call via the Internet. In this case, you have a choice. If your Internet connection is not working well, you can choose to use the cell phone’s microwave technology instead, which does not depend on an Internet connection.

If you are calling from the desktop computer or laptop from your home or office, you have only one way to call – via Internet. However, modern Internet home and office connections function well enough for our purpose, so you will receive great quality phone connections.

The only situation when your Internet connection can worsen voice quality is if you are calling from a tablet, iPad, or laptop computer when you are far away from your home or office, and using a mobile/Wi-Fi Internet connection. The tablet, iPad, or laptop computer have no option to bypass the Internet connection during a call. However, since very few of us travel without our mobile phones, this is rarely a problem. In this situation, you can use your mobile phone or smartphone to make international phone calls through our facilities without using the Internet option and the connection quality will work well.

I see a lot of offers for unlimited calls to other countries. But you don’t have this.

Yes, such “unlimited” offers are often promised. But why do we write “unlimited” in quotation marks? Because, if you study their offers carefully, read all the fine print and all the additional documents (such as “reasonable usage policy”), you will discover that you actually cannot make unlimited calls.

For example, calls to cell phones in foreign countries are sometimes subject to hidden fees. These companies have covertly included this in their terms of service, agreements, and supporting documentation. For example, you buy an “unlimited” plan for Mexico, but later you will be shocked to discover that for every minute of a call to cell phone in Mexico you have to pay an additional fee above the “unlimited” plan.

Providers which offer so-called “unlimited” pricing plans also use hidden restrictions. You soon discover that the number of calls you can actually make is restricted by a “reasonable usage policy” and the restriction is significant. Actually, you cannot call unlimited even to home phones. Usually, you do not find the extra charges until you receive the bill. And if they have you on automatic billing, you may not find out until much later.

Chances are that if you:

  • call more than a certain amount of minutes per month
  • call too many people (this makes these companies think you are a business customer)

Can I use your services for calling mobile or smartphone users outside the U.S.?

Yes, you can. But when you are calling to a cell phone outside the U.S., the call rate is much higher in most countries than it is to call a landline (home or office phone). For example, when calling a Denmark landline it costs around 5 cents per minute with your landline or cell phone. When using our service it will cost only 1 cents per minute*. However, you will save much more when you call a cell phone in Denmark. For example, if you call a cell phone on Denmark it will cost around 25 cents per minute but with our service it will cost just 5 cents per minute*. So, you will save even more money with our service when you call a cell phone outside the U.S. The differences in price varies from country to country but you will always save money with our service.

Can I use your services from a desktop computer, tablet computer, iPad computer, laptop, or netbook?

Yes, you can. The only requirement for these devices is that they have a good Internet connection. If you use such devices at home or in an office, the Internet connection is usually good enough.

If you are traveling within the U.S. and you are not near a Wi-Fi connection, you cannot use these devices for calling. But during those times you can use your cell phone without using the Internet.

If you are traveling outside the U.S., please be aware of the extra roaming charges that many countries have. Please also remember that some countries do not allow you to use foreign telecommunication providers when calling in their area. So be sure to check for any such laws when you travel..

Can I use your services when I am outside USA?

I have lower price for calls to Mexico/India/China/another country. Why do you say your price is low?

When you compare pricing plans, you should look very carefully. Bargain providers use various tricks to make their rates seem more attractive. Later, however, you end up spending much more money. We know all their tricks, and we consider them sleazy.

For example, there are “low rates” with 4-minute billing. That means that if your call lasts for 1.5 minutes, the provider will charge you for a 4 minute call. If your call lasts 5 minutes, you will be charged for 8 minutes (2 times 4 minutes), and so on. This means potentially on every call you could be charged an extra 3.5 minutes. This can add up to an extra 10% to 100% for each call. That is the true price of most “low rate” providers.

There are several other tricks which “bargain” providers use to catch you when you are not looking closely. They may sneak in a “connection fee” or “communication charge” and other “surcharges” which are not included in the rates you can see in price-list.

Some providers are so dishonest that they purposely route some of your calls (every once in awhile) to bogus connections where you are listening a some person or robot until you realize that, although you dialed the number you intended, they routed you to this bogus number. Crazy, criminal things like this go on.

After the bogus call when you redial, this time the provider lets the call go directly to the person you were calling. But the provider still charges you for the additional fake call and this is hard to spot when the bill comes a month later! It may be hard to believe, but if they give you 2-20 of these calls a month and do this with all their customers, it adds up to serious profit for them.

What is ip-telephony (what is VoIP)?

This is a phone connection where the call doesn’t go through common phone lines, such as landlines or mobile. Instead the call goes through the Internet network. IP is an abbreviation for Internet Protocol which just means “rules of moving information using the Internet”.

In most cases ip-telephony or VoIP [Voice over Internet Protocol] is used together with landlines or cell phone lines.   • You also can use a special IP-phone. This is a device which looks like an ordinary landline phone, but it is connected to the Internet wire like a computer. We have these in our online store if you need one.
